The Best Flooring Options for your New Bathroom
8/20/2013
When it comes to upgrading your bathroom the floor is an important features to really take your time on and consider all the possible options.

Bathrooms need to be stylish, comfortable, and easy to clean. You would be surprised to see how strong an impression a clean and modern bathroom can make on visitors. The bathrooms of a home are an essential selling point as well. The floor is the part of the bathroom that you will need to clean, and will be the first thing people notice when they walk into it. Here are six different flooring options to consider when embarking on your Maryland bathroom remodeling in your home.

Ceramic Tile

Ceramic is somewhat a generic term but true ceramic tile is made from clay. This type of tile is very hard and durable, but can be cold which might be uncomfortable to some people. Tile itself is very easy to clean, but dirt and mildew can appear in the grout. In addition to being one of the most durable options, tile is also one of the most aesthetically pleasing and expensive of all floor options.

Laminate Flooring

This is an affordable alternative to the more expensive floorings. It is made with a fiber core and a laminate coating that can come in a wide variety of colors and designs. This is a favorite of DIY people because installation only requires basic carpentry skills and can be completed in an afternoon. There are also more expensive laminates to choose from as well and inexpensive ones. Laminate floor is not as durable as the other floors because it can absorb water and swell, similar to untreated wood floors. On the flip side, these floors are the easier to clean due to the texture of the material.

Resilient Floor

This is a broad category that includes vinyl, cork, rubber, and linoleum. The price range for these products range from high to low. These floors are comfortable because they give a little and are not as hard as some of the other floorings mentioned. There are a number of colors and patterns available, but won't last as long as ceramic tile. This type of floor is amongst the easier to clean since most of these are covered with a layer of wax which is dirt resistant.

Wood Floor

Wood gives a room a warm and natural look. Although you may not think of rich oak, cherry, or maple trees when you think of a bathroom, these natural floors can add a whole other dimension to your home. Wood flooring comes in a variety of designs and is very easy to clean yet it is not as durable as ceramic tile since it is prone to cracking and water damage. You can substantially increase the life of a wood floor by properly treating it and keeping it dry.

Stone Flooring

There is nothing quite like stone flooring. This is the main reason why stone floors like granite, marble, sandstone, and slate are so coveted, and expensive. These floors have a warm look, and usually need to be installed by someone with a good deal of experience. Stone is cold but will last the entire life of the house, making it a great investment whether you plan to live in your home for a long time or plan to sell it in the near future.

Carpeting

This is a much less popular option for flooring, especially with people who have young children, for obvious reasons. It is the most difficult to clean due to its porous nature. However, carpet is also the most comfortable of all floors, and has many design options.

No matter what floor you choose, make sure you choose the floor that best matches your needs. Whether you are staging your house for a sale or preparing a new home for the next two decades, make the choice that best fits your needs.
