Richmond Allergy and Asthma Specialists, formerly Catlett Allergy Associates, specialize in the management of allergy related diseases in adults and children. These include asthma, hay fever, allergic rhinitis, eczema, repeated respiratory infections, food allergies, hives, bee-sting reactions and drug allergies. Frequent ear infections, chronic sinusitis and headaches often are allergy related.
Many people have allergies. The signs and symptoms often are unrecognized or attributed to other causes such as a "cold" that always occurs in the Spring. Common allergic symptoms include runny nose, nasal congestion, post nasal drip, cough, hoarseness, itchy watery eyes, dry skin, itching and hives. Allergic symptoms can be present all year or during specific seasons. Asthma, which is usually caused or worsened by allergies, can produce cough, shortness of breath, chest tightness and reduced exercise tolerance in addition to the classic wheezing. Food allergies can cause hives, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, anaphylaxis, wheezing, eczema, headaches and heartburn. The food that produces a reaction is not always obvious. Colic, formula intolerance, spitting up, and eczema in infants may be due to food allergies.
