Joseph A. Sandford, Ph.D., is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist in the state of Virginia and has been in private practice for the past seventeen years. He sees children, adolescents and adults for emotional and behavioral problems related to ADHD, Oppositional and Conduct Disorders, Depression, Anxiety, Chronic Pain, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, and other psychological problems. Dr. Sandford has extensive experience in psychological testing, evaluation and treatment of ADHD and has presented papers of his research at national conventions of the American Psychological Association and Children and Adults with Attention Deficit Disorder.
Our Practice offers a down-to-earth, problem solving approach utilizing cognitive and behavioral therapy to improve mental and emotional functioning. This approach utilizes relaxation, self-esteem enhancement techniques, and behavioral interventions to help pagple achieve positive change. Dr. Sandford completed his Bachelors degree at the College of William and Mary and received his Masters Degree in Research Psychology at Virginia Commonwealth University. He continued his educational training at NOVA Southeastern University, and received both a Master's degree and a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology. His American Psychological Association approved internship was at the McGuire VAMC. He completed his residency at the Behavioral Medicine Laboratory at the Medical College of Virginia.
Dr. Sandford also is president of BrainTrain, Inc., a software company which specializes in programs designed for computerized cognitive training and testing for individuals with
ADD/ADHD, LD, head injuries and other cognitive dysfunctions.
