The Ellen Shaw de Paredes Institute for Women’s Imaging is a radiology practice devoted to women’s health. Excellent and comprehensive breast imaging is available, including digital mammography, breast ultrasound, and breast biopsy. Bone densitometry and general body ultrasound services are also offered.
The center was established in 2005 by Dr. Ellen Shaw de Paredes, a nationally recognized expert in breast imaging and breast cancer diagnosis.
Since its inception, the practice has aimed for superb quality health care and excellent clinical services. By doing so, we believe that breast cancers are caught at an earlier stage, and that our ultimate mission is met – that is, to improve the outcome of women who are faced with this disease.
Our goal is to provide each patient with an excellent imaging examination using state-of-the-art technology in a lovely, comforting setting. Patients coming for screening mammography may have their mammogram reviewed the same day, if they choose, and if necessary, additional evaluation can be performed during the same office visit. Patients may meet with the radiologist to discuss the results of their mammogram before leaving the center, and referring physicians will be sent the results the same day.
Our logo, the butterfly, is a symbol of what we value – the beauty and fragility of life. In addition to providing exceptional clinical services, we want to also support the emotional needs of each patient. We aim to provide careful attention to detail, both clinically and personally.
The center is led by Dr. Ellen Shaw de Paredes, who has more than 20 years experience in and a passion for breast imaging. She is dedicated to the care of her patients, and is well-known as an expert in the field of breast imaging, both within the United States and abroad. She is sought after to give lectures at numerous medical conferences, and also sponsors her own continuing medical education course for other physicians each year. She is an active researcher in the breast imaging field, and as such, has many publications within the medical literature. In addition, she has recently completed the third edition of her textbook, Atlas of Film-Screen Mammography, which will be available in both English and Spanish. Obviously, teaching and sharing the knowledge of breast imaging is important to Dr. Paredes, which is the reason that the Paredes Institute has a strong academic focus. It is a center which trains young physicians in breast imaging, so that they may also develop meticulous skills and the knowledge to care for future generations of women.
