SUNDAY Bible Study 9:00 AM | Worship 10:00 AM | Evening Worship 6:00 PM WEDNESDAY Bible Study7:30 PM

It is Nov 16th, 2010 and I am sitting in the Provincial Forrest in Northern Saskatchewan Canada. Yesterday I was so fortunate to be able to take a buck of a lifetime for me. Today I am just sitting in a blind enjoying Gods great creation with no gun just a camera. My brother in Christ, Jeff Harrington is still hunting about mile away to the north of me.
Oh what a beautiful day it is. It is lightly snowing and it looks as if God has placed a white blanket on everything around. The fir trees are magnificent with a stack of fresh snow on their green limbs. There is about 6-8 inches of snow on the ground, and the silence of it all is almost deafening. It is so quiet that I can literally hear myself think. My feeble attempt to describe the beauty and wonder of it all does not do it justice. How can anyone in their right mind not believe that there is a creator?
Romans 1:20 says For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse (NKJV). Gods beauty and handiwork are so evident in this part of the world on such a day as thisand a bit more wondrous for me because I am such a lover of the outdoors. Let me share with you a few of Gods creatures that I have seen in the last 48 hours: Deer (obviously since I already killed one), moose, coyotes, a snow white weasel, magpies, ravens, ground squirrels, geese, a shrew, and I even heard a pack of wolves howling at daybreak.
Romans 1:20 that we just read is the precursor to verse 21 which is the real meat and potatoes of this text for us as Christians [21] because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Verses 22 through the end of the chapter describe what their futile thoughts and foolish hearts led to.
Let us heed this warning and take to heart the consequences of not giving God the glory in all things. Christians are called to have a thankful spirit. God is so glorious and magnificent and His beautiful creation is screaming at us a masterpiece of His magnificent love and majesty. I firmly believe that one of the many reasons why God gives us the many seasons is to remind us of Him and His glory. We often can get lulled into a stagnant and self-centered spirit over time.but it is things like a winters snow, spring flowers, breath taking sunsets, the changing colors of the fall, or maybe just a simple rainbow that should remind us of how great is our God. Guard against foolish hearts and futile thoughts and give God the glory for all things in thanksgiving because God is clearly seen and we are without excuse!!

1 and Homers of Barley
Wheeler Howards sermon on Hosea last Sunday evening was a blessing in several ways. He drew our attention to an often neglected book of unparalleled power and poignancy. He reminded us of the lengths to which the prophets of old were asked to go to communicate the message. And he got me thinking about ... MORE

Kit Carson and Ann White's Prayer
Christopher Houston Carson, better known as Kit, more than anyone (except perhaps Lewis and Clark) opened the American West to our imagination and shaped its image there. Leaving his cobblers bench in Missouri to head west at only 14, he hunted, trapped, mined, fought Indians, lived as a mountain man, rescued captives, and guided Jo... MORE

Forgive and Forget, Really?
If you havent noticed, Tiger Woods golf career has been in a real tailspin, to the point he came in next to last this summer in a tournament hes won 7 times. Whats interesting to me, is that Im yet to hear someone react to this news by saying boy, I sure do feel ... MORE

Guarding the Flock
The shepherds task appears simple. Find some decent grazing land with water nearby and a safe fold for the night. Scan the flock occasionally for the one thats about to wander and, if necessary nudge back toward the flock. But that image is deceptive. Not all pastures are equal in quality or ready access. No... So the other day my royal-blue eyeglasses were referred to by someone as Elton John Glasses, and I feel I must make some response to this charge if I am to retain a measure of dignity in my vocation as servant of the Word. I know that royal blue is not the usual color ... MORE

Swallowing Flies and Falling Asleep
When the girls were little enough to enjoy quality time on a swing-set, I used to push them and sing childrens songs. Their favorite (and mine) was There was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly, which is great because it is silly, morbid, and gross the perfect childrens song. Also, when I would ... MORE

Using 20/20 hindsight, it seems that it would have been so easy for Great Britain to avoid the war of American Independence. Greek Into Hebrew
I had the pleasure of filling in for David Binkley in the auditorium class last Sunday. He is teaching a class on Paul, and his missionary journeys. Bink has done a great job of describing the broad education Paul received while he was still Saul. Saul was trained as a Rabbi, as a leather worker/tentmaker, ... MORE

Memory and Hope
Paul says something curious in the Philippian letter about the role of memory, something that demands precise listening: Forgetting what is behind and reaching forward to what is ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward calling of God in Christ Jesus, (3.13-14). I have been taught that I ... MORE

On Presenting the Other Cheek
We dont usually listen well. This assumption underlies a good portion of the Sermon on the Mount specifically the You have heard it said.but I say unto you section (Matthew 5.21-48). In it Jesus indicts the teachers his day for misrepresenting the word of God so grossly that they actually taught the opposite ... MORE

My Tri-Corn Hat
My head is small and lumpy. Somehow, though, Ive managed. There are disadvantages (grave disadvantages) to having an under-sized, and irregular pate. One is that shaving your head is not really an option. I look at guys with a perfect dome, and envy them the way I used to envy guys that were a ... MORE

ACU technology team is Tweeting the Bible
Abilene Christian University in Texas reports: Its not every day that social networking and Christianity come together meaningfully or is it? Every day since April 14, three members of the ACU Technology support team have been Tweeting the Bible, one chapter per day, using the popular social network site Twitter. Nathaniel Jones, Chris Rhodes and Kent West will be spreading the Word, bits at a time, for a total of 1,189 days. We found one other time where someone had started a similar project but had only made it a couple of months, says Jones. We looked up the number of chapters... Read more

Where there is no Church of Christ: Ministry reports baptism in Montenegro
Bledi Valca speaks to Marsida before her baptism in Montenegro. Watching are her father, Gjovalin, and Tom Bonner, a missionary in Lushnja, Albania. (Photo via www.weiady.org) I get a giddy little thrill when I write something about a country that I previously havent had a chance to write about. Such is the case with Montenegro a nation of 624,000 souls on the Adriatic Sea, bordering Albania, Kosovo, Serbia and Bosnia-Herzegovina. Part of the reason I havent written about it is the fact that its only been an independent nation since May 2006. Before that, it was part of a confederation known... Read more

New Jersey church adds protection against joy-riding car thieves
NEWARK Newark Church of Christ has always been a good place to worship, but its parking lot may not be the best of locations situated along a city street where car thieves go joyriding at high speeds.Often the miscreants try to make a sharp turn and not prepared for how tight the corner really is hurtle out of control into the black wrought-iron fence that rings the church parking lot across Clinton Avenue.
