Joynes Funeral Home was founded in 1938 by Henry W. Joynes, a pioneering young man and a licensed funeral director from Cheriton, Virginia. He and his wife, Augustine, settled in Warrenton, Virginia and operated three locations: Warrenton, Falls Church, and Washington, D.C. During this time, Joynes Funeral Home was only one of two African-American owned funeral homes in Northern Virginia. Also during this time, professionalism, dignity, and the true ethic of “serve thy brother” were born as cornerstones of Joynes Funeral Home’s operation.

The 1960’s saw many new changes. George Woodson Joynes, son of Henry W., joined the firm and helped to continue the tradition for which the firm had become well known. During this time, the Falls Church and Washington, D.C. locations were gradually closed and a new facility was built at the current location on North Third St. in Warrenton. In 1987, Darryl Joynes joined the firm and added a third generation to the history. Today Joynes Funeral Home is known throughout Northern Virginia and has served thousands of families during the past seventy-one years.
When death occurs, you can be assured that the family and staff at Joynes Funeral Home are always prepared to assist you and your family. The funeral home operates 24 hours, seven days a week. They also assist in all-important preparations in any given service including, but not limited to filing the death certificate, and applying for social security, veterans benefits, and insurance claims.

Joynes Funeral Home also maintains an inventory on premises of caskets of various styles and designs along with a vault display. If alternative methods of disposition are desired, such as a cremation or pre-planning, the directors are prepared to explain all options. They continue to remain the funeral home of choice for those who are discriminating in their search for a funeral establishment that devotes time, expertise, and experience in handling their family’s affairs.
Joynes Funeral Home proudly serves all faiths and all people.
