As founder of The School of Theatrical Dance, I would like to welcome you, and invite you to join us for an unforgettable dance experience. We incorporated in 1980 as a Non-Profit 501c3,Tax Exempt Educational Institution. I chose the name to reflect the diversity of our program, which focuses on dance as a performing art, the centerpiece of the harmony of music, movement, light, costume and message .
We offer classes and private lessons for Children through Adults, in Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Modern Dance and Fitness. We are also a host facility for Starshine Theater and Traditional Pilates. Our faculty is dedicated to providing individualized, quality instruction. We are trained in classical as well as contemporary dance forms, which enables us to guide our students into the most satisfying pursuit. Because a dancer must train the mind and muscles carefully, we recommend that all students begin with the basics of Ballet. The methodical exercises that Ballet prescribes are one of the best ways to instill a thorough understanding of the body's movement potential. We then evaluate and help them find their niche in dance. For some, Ballet will be their passion, and for some it will serve as the foundation on which they will build other techniques, such as Modern, Jazz, or Tap.
All our students, with the exception of the Pre-Ballet (which has an in- studio Open House), have the opportunity to participate in the Year-end Recital. We carefully craft dances which challenge while at the same time showcase the strengths of our students. Our upper level students also perform in our original Winter Production, "Christmas Eve at The Nutcracker Club".

That question can be answered on many levels. It's fun, it's healthy... The obvious answers. But when you take a closer look, you find that dance is the only pursuit which is such a complex synthesis of mental and physical abilities. On the physical side are posture, fine and gross motor coordination, strength, grace, balance, flexibility, control, speed, power and endurance. On the mental side are the understanding musical phrasing and nuance, familiarity with anatomy and muscle function, spatial perception, coordination and timing of movement with other moving bodies, dramatic expression and character, poise and confidence and the memorization of dance vocabulary. Because there are so many components to dance, the technique requires constant repetition, not only for neuromuscular coordination, but strength, and injury prevention. We give careful attention to the mastery of each aspect of dance, so that at every level dance becomes the joyful experience it is meant to be. Theresa D'Alessandro, Director
