In 1947 Radio Communications was founded by Eldridge E. Emswiler. His wife Blanche managed the office. Initially, the company's primary business was repairing pinball machines and juke boxes. At the time, two-way radios were just being developed. Mr. Emswiler's previous experience had been with two-way radios in the Radford Army Arsenal. When the company was first formed it was called "Radio Communications of Virginia" which repaired Fred M. Link radios as a subcontractor for the Larry Arnold Company.
In 1948 Mr. Emswiler hired Bob Anderson, who had serviced radios during World War II in the US Army. In 1948 the company severed it's relationship with the Larry Arnold Company and became incorporated with the name Radio Communications Company Inc. The corporation consisted of 3 stockholders and Mr. Emswiler. There were two technicians, one installer and an office manager.
In 1949 Mr. Emswiler began selling for Motorola. When he left, he sold his stock to Bob Anderson, who then became president of the company. In 1996, Bob Anderson turned control of the business over to his daughter Barbara Cisco as company president.
The company was originally located at 311 Shenandoah Avenue several blocks from it's current location. The original focus of the company was to service local cab companies and local municipal governments. Most of these original customers remain with us today. RCC over the years has branched out to service and maintain many radio systems for companies, governments and various organizations. RCC continues to serve customers in and around the Southwestern Virginia Area.
Today Radio Communications Company employs 7 service technicians, a two-man installation department, a parts manager, a sales manager, several salespeople and two office administrators. Three of our technicians are FCC certified and two are certified by NABER.
RCC currently provides contracted maintenance service for the Roanoke County and City 800 MHz Trunked radio system. We are the primary service provider for Salem's Public Service radio systems. We provide service to many local companies such as Coca Cola, Steel Dynamics, Davis H. Elliot, COX Cable, Roanoke Gas and many more. RCC is the only authorized dealer in the Roanoke Valley to repair Motorola Trunked Radios and Trunked Systems. We also service all Motorola Contract customers in the area.
RCC also provides service repair and installation service for many Federal agencies such as FBI, DEA, US Marshalls and IRS. We work closely with these agencies to keep them equipped with the latest in 2-way radio technology including the APCO P25 standard and digital encryption for secure communications.
