Westminster School is excited about plans to install an on-campus athletic field to take the place of a nearby county-owned field which has been used in the past. In 2009, Westminster acquired the two-acre plot of land adjacent to school property for this purpose. Engineering plans are underway for a state-of-the art field, including durable, quick-drying artificial turf and an underground water storage and drainage system to accommodate rain run-off and protect against down-stream erosion. The field will accommodate both soccer and softball games, as well as daily P.E. activities. Construction plans associated with the athletic field also include tiered seating for viewers, relocation of the school playground to be adjacent to the new field, as well as additional sidewalks linking the field with guest parking and other school sites. Construction is estimated to begin sometime between spring 2011 and spring 2012, depending on the acquisition of funding and county building permits.

Westminster School Opens a Preschool!
The Griffin Academy of Westminster School just opened its doors this fall. The preschool is located at St. Albans Church at 6800 Columbia Pike in Annandale, VA. This location is particularly special because when Westminster first opened in 1962, it was located in this same church. Mrs. Goll rented space from the church for her first kindergarten class. Of course, the location is also very convenient for parents who will have a child enrolled at Westminster and at The Griffin Academy as the church is only a short distance from the school.
