The Teachings of Kung Fu Panda - A Mini Spiritual Retreat
Submitted by Scott on Mon, 07/12/2010 - 2:24pm

Join the Fun Ministry for a mini spiritual retreat Sat. July 17th, from 10 am - 9 pm, featuring a viewing of the movie, Kung Fu Panda and discussion of the lessons that can be gleaned from the movie. Also, free brunch and dinner, board games and card games, and a relaxed atmosphere. Members, friends, and the general public are welcome! Come for just a part of the day, or stay for the whole thing!

Yard sales within Fairfax City limits can be difficult to pull off. The city has a lot of regulations, and most communities are intentionally in low traffic areas.
Reserve a 10'x10' space on our accommodating front lawn right on Main St./Little River Turnpike to sell your unwanted personal items (just a $10 donation, provide your own tables.) This is also a great venue for crafters, non-profits and clubs who want to interact with the community, and other businesses or licensed vendors. (Sorry, electrical or plumbing hookups are not available.) If you're interested in reserving a space, please email FairfaxChristianChurch@gmail.com with your name, telephone number, and number of spaces you need.
In addition to the spaces for vendors on the front lawn, we'll have FREE games for kids, a Moon Bounce, face painting, and other kid friendly activities. Best of all, we'll have delicious goodies at our bake sale, breakfast sale, and FREE lunch (burgers and hot dogs) from 12-1 pm for the first 100 patrons. Lunch will be available for all to purchase as well.
This event takes place rain or shine, as we have plenty of indoor space for all our vendors.
We hope you will join us for a fun day of bargain hunting, tasty treats, laughing kids, and community!

The forecast for tomorrow is not looking friendly to yard work, so the Spring Clean Up Day has been postponed to May 8. Hope you can make it then!

Fairfax Christian Church Members Joe and Sakina Keaton Featured in Fairfax Times
Submitted by Scott on Sun, 04/11/2010 - 7:01pm

Joe and Sakina Keaton are longtime members of our congregation, and they run a little store called Simply Country Store out in quaint Clifton, VA, a small community that has kept its rural feel while all around it has succumb to suburban sprawl. Last week, the Fairfax Times featured them in an article, although we won't hold it against them that they misprinted Joe's name! From personal experience, I can vouch for the quote in the article from customer John Haines, who called their home cooked food, "best food in the county." We'll be sure to let you know when the next fellowship dinner is so you can join us and sample some of Sakina's delicious dishes.

Fairfax Christian Church Calls Russ Wagner-Bark as Interim Pastor
Submitted by Scott on Sun, 04/11/2010 - 11:08am

It is with great joy and excitement that we announce that we have called Russ Wagner-Bark to serve as our Interim Pastor, and Russ has humbly accepted. Russ has been skillfully and faithfully serving as our Acting Pastor since our previous pastor took terminal leave last fall and retired from active ministry in January. We now call him to a more firm role of Interim Pastor, with the option of calling him as our Settled Pastor. We look forward to Russ' leadership and are thankful that God has placed him and his wife Carolyn in our midst.

The holiest week of the liturgical year is upon us. It all starts tomorrow as we celebrate Jesus' entry into Jerusalem on what has come to be called Palm Sunday (11:00 am), for the way the people Jerusalem made a path for Jesus out of palm fronds as he entered the city, riding on a donkey.

Our worship builds with Maundy Thursday (7:00 pm), where we remember the Last Supper, and will experience what it might have been like to be in that Upper Room with the disciples as they celebrated the last Passover meal they would have with their teacher. We will share a meal much like Jesus did, with homemade breads and soups.
The week culminates with remembering Jesus' suffering and death, and the fear, confusion, and sadness that came to the disciples, feelings which are replaced by joy upon discovering the tomb is empty. Lucky for us, we know what the empty tomb means! Our Easter worship begins at 11:00 am.
