Founded in 1970, as one of the nation's top Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine clinics, Nirschl Orthopaedic Clinic was one of the first orthopaedic practices in the United States to combine the most current treatment techniques with a state-of-the-art rehabilitation facility. Founder Robert P. Nirschl, M.D., through his research and contributions to medical literature, has been recognized internationally as a pioneer in the diagnosis and treatment of orthopaedic and sports injuries. NOC has been consistently rated one of the top orthopaedic and sports medicine centers in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. Our physicians have extensive experience in treating patients with orthopaedic and sports medicine injuries. We are at the forefront of treating disorders of the elbow, shoulder, hip and knee. At NOC, we treat all patients, from recreational to professional athletes, with compassion, care and understanding.

The physicians at the Nirschl Orthopaedic Clinic believe that physical rehabilitation is an integral part of a successful recovery plan, whether it is the primary treatment or it follows a surgical procedure. With this in mind, physicians and physical therapists design individual exercise programs for each patient, so that optimum recovery is achieved as soon as possible.

In collaboration with the Virginia Hospital Center, NOC offers the only ACGME accredited sports medicine fellowship teaching program for orthopaedic surgeons and primary care physicians in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. Our program attracts graduate orthopaedic surgeons from all over the United States. In addition, we train visiting orthopaedic surgeons from around the world on our specific surgical procedures and protocols. NOC is conveniently located on the campus of the Virginia Hospital Center in Arlington and is just minutes away from Washington D.C. and Reagan National Airport.

For the convenience of patients, NOC accepts most medical PPO insurance plans. Please contact our office to check on a specific plan, ask questions or make appointments. We are happy to see patients with orthopedic problems out of network and will make every effort to keep costs reasonable. Please call our office for details.

Patients with other insurance coverage will be responsible for filing their own insurance. We recommend that you check with your health insurance carrier prior to initiating treatment to clarify the specifics of your coverage.
