The most important points you must consider are:
1. The Barone Modeling Agency is NOT a modeling school, and DOES NOT charge for training. TRAINING AND PROMOTION ARE FREE! IN ADDITION, PROMOTION ON OUR INTERNET WEB SITE IS FREE!
2. Barone Models are GIVEN A WRITTEN GUARANTEE THAT THEY WILL MODEL and get paid for it. No other organization can make this claim! Be extremely cautious of 'FINE PRINT'. IF another organization orally claims they guarantee you work. Be careful that the fine print in the contracts do not indicate "NO GUARANTEE".
Beware of organizations that do not put their promises in writing.
This agency will go a step farther in its claim. If you can find an organization that will make you an offer better than ours, and they will put that offer in writing, we will pay what ever fees you need to go there. That's how confident we are that they will not put it in writing, if the offer is better than ours.

All new applicants must be seen in person. For information on our agency, qualifications of our models, directions to the office, and to make an appointment to come in and see us. All new applicants MUST CALL EITHER OF THE FOLLOWING TELEPHONE NUMBERS: 703-845-1787 OR 703-578-3624.

2. ESPECIALLY NEVER ALLOW THEM TO TAKE ANY TEST PHOTOS OR SCREEN TEST, AFTER GIVING THEM A DEPOSIT. BECAUSE YOU WILL THEN LOSE ALL OF YOUR DEPOSIT.
3. If an organization claims they are providing work for their models. They should be able to produce photographic evidence of THEIR models appearing in advertisements. Be very concerned about organizations that have big name models on the walls of their office. Ask them to put in writing that they had anything to do with the careers of those models. Be very specific, put in writing that those models went through their program. Some of these organizations will put big name models on their web site. The next paragraph contains a link to information compiled by investigative reporters about such web sites.

WHAT ABOUT SOME OF THE ORGANIZATIONS THAT COME INTO THE AREA, AND SETUP IN HOTELS, SHOPPING MALLS, ETC? ORGANIZATIONS THAT DO NOT HAVE ESTABLISHED OFFICES LOCALLY! (NOTE: SOME of the following information will apply to a few organizations locally as well)
BE VERY VERY CAUTIOUS OF ORGANIZATIONS THAT DO NOT HAVE AN ESTABLISHED OFFICE LOCALLY. Many applicants that come to us, wish they had heeded this warning. If the organization claims they are in the process of getting a local office, it will be in your best interest to wait until they do. Do not allow them to pressure you into getting involved until they get the local office.
The following are some of the "METHODS" used by some organizations that you may consider to be questionable. These "methods" were brought to the attention of the Barone Agency by model applicants who attended meetings with organizations from out of the Washington, DC area. According to the persons being interviewed, they felt that they were misled. Above all they received no modeling assignments as a result of the time, effort, and MONEY they put into it.
Method 1: After paying $1800 for training, you still have to get the work yourself.

Method 5: Radio and Television advertisement, looking for models
Method 6:Told she could become an actress, but, needed to be trained for $3000, with NO GUARANTEE!
Method 7: Are you new to the United States?

Method 9 "Modeling Conventions"
Method 10 After spending thousands for training , you are told they have work for you, but, you have to travel to another COUNTRY, or another STATE in the U. S. A, to get it. AT YOUR OWN EXPENSE!
Method 11. Advertises that a big name Director for a new motion picture or TV program is coming into your area.
Method 12. After spending $1200 to go to a Convention, was told at 18 years old she was too old.
These organizations usually claim that agents from such places as New York City, Los Angeles, and etc. will be there. Some organizations will indicate that the interview is FREE. However, when you get there, you will find that many hundreds of dollars are required to go through their program. It could be as much as $1800, and in some cases we have discovered as much as $3500 involved.
1. New York City, and L. A. have some of the highest concentrations of models in the world. Hundreds of models visit EACH Modeling Agency located in these cities every week. Why would an agent travel from New York City, Los Angeles, or from anywhere their home office is located, to Washington, DC to find models? If they truly have something to offer, models will come in large numbers, to their home office no matter where it is located. Remember models travel from all over the world to visit New York City agencies. Any claim by an organization that big modeling agencies in the world depend on them to find models is total, and complete nonsense!
2. Some of these organizations will attempt to get between $75 to $700 from you for preparation for the interview, registration/admission fee, COMPOSITE CARDS, or photographs.
3. Some will make you wonderful promises. But, then they will ask you to sign a statement that explicitly indicates that you understand there is NO GUARANTEE!
4. A NO GUARANTEE CLAUSE in an organizations contracts is usually a guarantee that you will not receive any work.
5. Some include big name models in their brochures, and internet Web Site. Insist that they put in writing that they had anything to do with the development of the career of those models.
6. You should ask these organizations, the following very important question, especially if they have been in the area before. "Show me an advertisement including one of the models from the Washington area, that you selected the last time you were here." When you can do that I will give you the money you are asking for too.
6. If getting modeling assignments is what you expect after paying an organization hundreds of dollars for whatever, you must insist on a WRITTEN GUARANTEE.
7. You should check with the "BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU", before attending a meeting with organizations that do not have an established office locally. It is a wise decision to check with the BBB even if they do have a local office.
In Washington, DC, the BBB telephone number is (202)393-8000, or, the BBB web site, is www.dc.bbb.org. To check on the Barone Agency you must type in our telephone number, 703-768-2231. In some situation you must check on the organization by name, not telephone number, because many times they change their telephone number, and therefore can not be tracked by the BBB. Unfortunately, many times they even change their name. You should ask them to put in writing that their organization has never been known by another name, or if the current owners have ever owned or been affiliated with a MODELING organization, that has been closed down for any reason. Find out what the previous name was, and check on the circumstances involved.
Note, if they do not have an office locally they may not be licensed to operate in this area. Therefore, they do not fall under anyone's jurisdiction. This means if you have a problem, or feel you were misled, NO ONE CAN HELP YOU! If you have engaged in activities with an out of town organization, and feel you were misled, you can bring the matter to the attention of the Federal Trade Commission, in Washington, DC, Tel: 202-326-2222.
One rule of thumb you can use when visiting a modeling organization. Leave your money, check book, and credit card ... at home! The only exception to this rule would be,if the agency tells you over the phone, and in advance, that a screening or application fee is required. They should also tell you the amount of the fee. You will of course need that fee when you apply, but, all other moneys should be left at home.
You will note that the Barone Agency gives you a great deal of information on the internet, and over the telephone.
Some organizations refuse to give you information before you go into see them. In many cases these organizations use this method because they intend to mislead you when you go to their office.
According to investigative reporters from Washington, DC, area television Channels 4, 7, 9, 11, these organizations will use "flattery, and outright lies" to get you to give them money.
