The Pediatric Center has been providing care for Richmonds children since 1962. We started as a small practice of 3 doctors, and have grown to become a large practice with 12 Pediatricians and 7 Nurse practitioners. We have three separate locations throughout Richmond, including the West End, Northside, and East End.
Our entire staff is dedicated to providing you and your children the best possible care. Our goal is state of the art, up to date pediatric care for your children, delivered in a compassionate and comforting environment. As a parent, you can be confident that our health care team will be here for you and your child from birth to college, to guide you as they grow, in states of wellness and in times of illness.

Receive the vaccine while at a regularly scheduled appointment. Depending on the day, we are sometimes able to accommodate flu shots for siblings at these appointments too. Please check with your provider.

If your child is older than 6 months but less than 2 years, they will be eligible for the flu SHOT. If they are 2 years or older, they may be eligible for FluMist instead of the shot (as long as they are non-asthmatic and have not been wheezing recently), just ask. In this years vaccine, one of the three strains is H1N1 (yeah!). Parents can pay $25-30 and get the shot in the office too.
General Flu Shot Information
Influenza vaccination is recommended for all children aged 6 months and up.
All children 6 months through 8 years of age are recommended to receive 2 doses of 2010-11 flu vaccine 4 or more weeks apart unless they have received:

at least 1 dose of 2009 H1N1 vaccine last flu season, and
at least 1 dose of seasonal vaccine prior to the 2009-2010 flu season or 2 doses of 2009-10 seasonal flu vaccine

If a child has fulfilled both requirements, they only need 1 2010-11 flu vaccine.
The first dose should be given as soon as vaccine becomes available, and the second dose should be given 28 or more days after the first dose. The first dose "primes" the immune system; the second dose provides immune protection. Children who only get one dose but need two doses can have reduced or no protection from a single dose of flu vaccine. Two doses are necessary to protect these children. If your child needs the two doses, begin the process early, so that children are protected before influenza starts circulating in the community. Be sure to follow up to get your child a second dose if they need one. It usually takes about two weeks after the second dose for protection to begin.

The John Rolfe office is now open in the West End at the corner of Ridgefield Parkway and John Rolfe Parkway. This office has replaced the Gayton Road office. The new office has 10,500 square feet of space and 19 exam rooms. We have two separate waiting rooms for sick and well patients and a secluded area for newborns. In addition, there is a "Lactation Lounge" in the back so that our nursing mothers can relax in a more private setting. Please come see our new home!
We work hard to be the best that we can be, working with parents to provide the care necessary for your children. We would appreciate your feedback on the job we are doing in our online survey.
