It has been a pleasure to serve the Ashland & Richmond communities for the past 32 years. It is with great sadness that we have to report that The Smokey Pig Restaurant is now closed.
Since opening on September 6th, 1978, The Smokey Pig Restaurant was a landmark for local residents and travelers who appreciated its "elegantly informal" atmosphere and fine home cooked foods.
The building that once housed The Smokey Pig dates back to 1927. It was built as a general store, with lodging upstairs. Robert S. Jeffers purchased the building in July of 1978. After just six weeks of renovations The Jeffer's family opened for business. The restaurant served continuously for 32 years, until September 2010.
The name "The Smokey Pig" came from many family attempts to create a catchy name for their barbecue restaurant. "The Pig" was not only famous for its Hickory Smoked Barbecue, but for the vast variety of home cooked and southern style meals made on the premises daily.
Thanks for visiting us today. We hope that you enjoyed yourself, for the many years, we were in operation. Please remember "Dig the Pig"!
