HRT (Hampton Roads Transit) can now take your bike on a rack on the front of the bus. The rack can accept two (2) bikes. There is no additional charge for transporting a bike.
This new setup will allow a cyclist to cross the Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnels. HRT route 61 is the bus to use. The schedule and map can be found here.

Donate your old bike
There is a great charity for used adult bicycles. Virginia Beach United Methodist Church has a program that reconditions bikes for those who need transportation.
Directions from the Virginia Beach Oceanfront: Use the Virginia Beach Expressway, I-264. Take Exit #18 Rosemont Rd. Turn right at the bottom of the exit ramp, then get into the left or center lane. Turn left onto Virginia Beach Blvd. Loehmann's Plaza is on your right, after the 3rd traffic light at Kentucky Ave. There is a central entrance as well as access from each traffic light.
Freewheelin is just left of the center driveway, next to Dress Barn.
Directions from points West: Use the Virginia Beach Expressway, I-264. Take Exit #17B Independence Blvd., and stay to the right after merging. (Check out the back way below to bypass Town Center) Turn right onto Virginia Beach Blvd. at the third traffic light. Loehmann's Plaza is on your left after about 1 mile. Turn left at the light at Stepney Lane and then right into the parking lot.
Freewheelin is just before the center driveway, next to Dress Barn.
You can take the back way from Independence Blvd:
After exiting I-264, merge with traffic and then immediately change to the right lane. Make the first right onto Bonney Rd. and go about 1 mile. At what will be the third traffic light, turn left on Kentucky Ave. Cross Virginia Beach Blvd. and then turn left into the parking lot.
