This leads to both pastors and churches being better able to discern the leading of the Holy Spirit in the pastoral search process a process that all too often results in short-term and unfruitful ministry.
In one major denomination the average tenure for a pastor is 3 years.
Nationally the average pastor will only stay with a congregation for 3 to 5 years - these numbers are continually declining.
The average pastor does not reach a significant level of effectiveness until years 5 to 7.
