At Global Refining Group, they are confident that their processing system is the most effective method of PGM recycling in the United States and around the world. Capable of extracting 2 to 6% more material than any other current method, their completely enclosed processing system was created to exceed the current standard of catalyst extraction.
Global Refining Group has moved far beyond the outdated decanning process, which has proven to be a time consuming and expensive manual shearing procedure. Decanning is often referred to as an open or closed system and is still used by other companies in the industry today. Overall, this process is simply not able to extract and retain the full content of PGM from the converter shell casings. Costs associated with the older method of manual shearing include labor costs, machinery repair costs and profit loss from dispelled material. In addition a percentage of the catalyst material is released into the air, stuck to the machinery blades, left over on the facility floors and not completely expelled from the catalyst cans by negligent employees.
