Marshall Place Boxwood RR4 Box 1210 Dillwyn, VA 23936 PH: 434-983-3364 FX: 434-983-1032
Marshall Place Boxwood is situated in beautiful, rural Buckingham County, the geographic center of Virginia. Marshall Place is so named because the residence is built around a hunting lodge once owned by Chief Justice John Marshall. It is said that he would visit here to hunt quail. The nursery is owned and operated by Bill Moseley, son of J. Marshall Moseley (1911-1999).
Marshall Moseley first started the plantings in 1966 prior to his retirement from The American Tobacco Company, where he was Director of Agricultural Research. The plants were propagated from the boxwood of Berkeley Plantation in Charles City County, on the lower James River.
Plants from Marshall Place Boxwood are thriving in Colonial Williamsburg, at the Virginia House in Richmond, and in front of the President's House and Rotunda at the University of Virginia.
